A Boy's Discovery

Vigorously you move through time
Always on the go
Energetic and curious
With an infinite thirst to know
Determined to move forward
Though a sense of impatience mounts,
For instinctively you know there must be more
You wonder what you are searching for
Bewildered and mystified
You stumble through
Until you begin to recognize
The complexity of being masculine
Is overwhelming your thoughts

Stifling your fears
For the need to be in control
Keeps your emotions minimized
And as you demolished your inner being
In this quagmire of entangled thoughts
The pressure to perform is often too great
Judgment by others is so public; the cost too dear
Discovering that you're quantifying your existence
In dimensions of the generations long past
You see that your life is masked in pretense
And is concealed by time and fate
Facing you is a dilemma of immense significance
For whom shall you become?

The challenge of identifying your true self
Means exposing your vulnerability
Freeing yourself from the twisted fates of the past
Means commencing with an intimate relationship
Of acceptance of self
Bringing forth strength, courage
And an openness
Of unyielding magnitude
Affirming a zestful experience
Filled equally with hopes and fears
By your discovery of self
Humanity is enriched.

How does one demystify the complexity of being masculine in a world of endless sound bites of war?
