Bullying in Middle Schools

The environment a school creates needs to be aware and against bullying to help them feel supportive and safe.

The Middle School should have comfortable zones. There should always be an area where children can go that is considered 'safe' to everyone. There should be someone that children can go to and report their problems to. This person should be well known to them and everyone in the school as someone who will get the problem addressed. The school should also try to have as many 'comfort signs' as possible: such as welcoming posters, diverse programming, colorful and lively signs, etc. Cement gray walls tend to have children feel like they are in a world of depression, loneliness, and sadness when a school atmosphere should be the exact opposite.

When addressing the bully, make sure you address the problematic behavior, not the child.
