What are the key aspects to a successful parent/teacher relationship?

In the same idea of a parents involvement in the classroom, there has to be a rapport between the teacher and parent for this relationship to be a beneficial one. Some key aspects to make this relationship both effective and a success are:

 

  • Parent introduction to the the teacher as soon as possible
  • Important information about the child that the parent thinks the teacher should know
  • Having the parent let the teacher know when is the best time to contact them about their child and vice versa
  • Have the parents attend school functions (other then sporting events)
  • Parental support of the teacher (helping in the classroom; seeing how education actually works)
  • Inter-parental interaction
  • Parents being open minded to new educational practices (i.e. Curriculum Integration)
  • Parents doing related reading on what is currently happening in education so that they may have more informed opinions
  • When a problem arises, have open lines of communication
